What are the Chances? (I mean really!)

I feel like I should just preface this post by saying that I have NEVER had a flat tire in my 20+ years of driving.

...So last night I was finishing up some things around the house and decided to check my email. In it I found the link to an ABC News story regarding "aging tires" that my sister-in-laws mother sent to me. She simply stated that she thought the information in the video was "important" for me to watch. I'm not one to typically read/watch fowarded emails, but I was curious about this one so I decided to watch the video.

It ended up that the piece was in regard to "aged/aging" tires that are being sold as "new" to unknowing consumers all across the U.S. and the story went on to explain the potential dangers inherent when aged tires are used on vehicles. At any rate, I watched the story and found it fairly interesting...all in all it fell into the category of "delete email but retain knowledge base--this could come in handy some day."

Fast forward less than 24 hours later. I'm late leaving work, late in picking up the kids from school and daycare and, really, just want to get home and enjoy an evening at home with my family. Instead, I approach my vehicle as I'm preparing to leave work only to find out that I have a FLAT TIRE!

Now, as I mentioned in the first paragraph, I have NEVER in my 20+ years of driving had a flat tire...and I just so happen to watch this cosumer-driven ABC News piece regarding the purchase of tires...and it just so happens that the very next day I have a flat tire. I mean, what are the chances???

The good news in all of this is that while I am a better informed consumer when it comes to purchasing tires I didn't actually need to replace my tire. It turns out that there was a huge SCREW (oh, the irony!) lodged in my tire but the shop was able to simply repair my tire and I was back on the road in less than 30 minutes and on my way to pick up my kids.

So, if you are interested in viewing the video that started all of this I'm including a link here...I just hope your viewing of the information does not produce the same results that mine did!
