What's in a Birthday?

So, the weekend was chaotic with a small amount of control sprinkled in there! My husband's birthday was this weekend and, unfortunately, I sort of feel like he got the shaft. We had a very busy weekend up until today; today things slowed down a bit (or so we thought) but ended up going something like this:

1. "Little Man" and Dad spent a good majority of the morning together because "Feisty Girl" slept in until around 10:45 a.m. and I also slept in due to a horrible back ache that I was trying to get rid of.

2. Dad had a work-related deadline to meet so he went into the office just before "Feisty Girl" and I rolled out of bed. We felt sorry for him so we decided to pick up lunch and take it to him at the office, which is also where we gave him his cards, gift, and his first "Happy Birthday's" of the day.

3. The kids and I ran errands while Dad played some online poker. He entered a 225 player tournament on Full Tilt Poker and went out in 7th place. I was pretty proud of him (his best win ever) but only the top two players advanced to the next round so he was bummed that he came so close but didn't make it.

4. After things around the house started to shape up we decided to have supper. After supper I got "Little Man" into his PJ's and was going to put "Feisty Girl" to bed (I was just finishing up the dishes) when I heard a loud C-R-A-S-H followed by a very high-pitched scream and lots of crying. Turns out...

5. "Feisty Girl" had blood spewing from the back of her head. As I am carrying her into the kitchen, "Little Man" informs us "she stood on the laundry basket and then fell off and hit her head on the TV stand." OH LOVELY!

6. So, with my dear husband holding a hand towel to the back of "Feisty Girls" head, we make our way to Urgent Care. By the time we are there the towel is pretty much soaked with blood (in case you didn't know, there are LOTS of blood vessels in the head!) but we receive good news from the doctor -- minor gash, huge goose-egg, but "Feisty Girl" is going to make it. He said he could give her one stitch to close the gash but since the bleeding had all but stopped and there would be no visable scar (her hair would cover it) he recommended just leaving it to heal on its own.

7. We returned to the house and by 7:30 p.m. we were able to sit down and have "family movie night" (a tradition of sorts in our home) with the day finally behind us...well, almost...

8. Until I decided to check on "Little Man's" molars; he is getting his six year bottom molars in and I decided to check to see if they had completely made it to the surface yet. I checked, nope, still only about 1/2 way through...however, as I'm examining his teeth I notice an "extra" tooth (presumably permanent) growing at an angle behind one of his front baby teeth. Oh joy! Now I suppose we'll be visiting the dentist tomorrow to figure out what in the world is going on there!

So, as you can see...just another day on the homestead!

Happy Birthday Honey! :)
