Anna Mae He

China Daily recently ran a story about Anna Mae He, the 11 year old American-Chinese girl who was removed from the only home she has ever known, in the U.S., to be returned to her biological family in China.

The story is a sad one for all involved. The parents who raised Anna had to let her go; she had to leave the only world she has ever known; and her biological family was left with a legal nightmare and a huge hole in their hearts -- but I was happy to read that Anna's biological mother (who is now divorced from her biological father) recently started allowing weekly calls from the Baker's, Anna's "foster" family in the U.S., to Anna in China. If you are interested in reading the full story, visit ChinaDaily.com.

Hopefully this is one of those stories that years from now will have a fairytail ending for all involved; something along the lines of "girl experiences life in the U.S. as a child, returns to China and learns to speak Chinese, learns of the country's history and culture, and takes in its scenery and now, twenty years later, she is..."
