I was saddened to read a story yesterday about a wonderful man and woman, mother and father to a total of 16 children (12 of them adopted), who appear to have been murdered in a "break-in executed with chilling precision." Their names are Byrd and Melanie Billings. Many of the children they adopted were special needs children. It has been reported that eight of the children were at home when their home was broken into and their parents murdered.
It appears the family was very well-off financially but the motives for the killings are still being reported as unknown at this point in time. Regardless, it is hard to believe that a seemingly wonderful couple's lives have been ended as the result of a such a senseless act.
An adult daughter of they Billings, was reporting as saying that her mother always told her that "some people grow up wanting to be doctors or lawyers or teachers. She wanted to be a mommy," Markham said in a statement. "Her lifelong dream was loving her babies and being a voice for them." That daughters plans to carry on her mother, and fathers, legacy.
