A Night at the Game

Last weekend we spent the night in the Twin Cities.  We attended a Timberwolves Game and then stayed at the Embassy Suites in Brooklyn Center using our Hilton Honors points!  Sunday morning we got up, did some shopping, and then headed home to watch the Super Bowl.  It was a fun weekend.

The story behind our attendance at this particular game is kind of neat -- "Little Man" actually won the tickets at a silent auction fundraiser for the father-in-law of one of my coworkers who has cancer.  We have been to silent auction fundraisers before but never with the kids, so this was a whole new experience and "Little Man" was definitely intriguied by the whole thing.  We talked about why we were going, what the auction was all about, and how the money raised would go to help pay medical bills, etc.

After knowing the "why" behind why we were going, "Little Man" promptly asked whether he could take some money out of his savings to bid on some things of his own.  We have also taught the kids to save a lot, donate some, and spend little -- a concept "Little Man" understands very well.  At any rate, there were some Timberwolves tickets up for auction (both a four-pack and an entire suite) and "Little Man" was just dying to use his money to bid on them.  He had bid on a Lego gift set and a SnowCone gift set earlier in the evening but those two items received lots of attention from many families and were quickly out of "Little Man's" price range...which is when he happened upon these tickets to the Timberwolves game.

Now, granted, the Timberwolves aren't all that popular at the moment but we couldn't believe that at the time we stumbled upon these, the top bid on the four-pack was only at $15.00.  "Little Man" had withdrawn $50.00 from his savings account and, at all costs, he was going to win these tickets.  Amazingly, in the end, he did win them -- if fact, he ended up getting all four tickets for a total of $45.00.  Imagine our surprise when we received the tickets in the mail and discovered they were $115.00 each.  They were center court tickets about 15 rows from the court.  We've been to a lot of games, but these were by far the best tickets we had ever had -- thanks "Little Man" for your winning bid!  We really enjoyed the evening!
