On the thirteenth day of the Chinese New Year, many Chinese will turn to eating only vegetarian food for the day. This is said to be sort of a "cleansing" ritual, in light of consuming so much food over the earlier part of the Chinese New Year.
This day is also dedicated to the Chinese God of War, Guan Yu. Guan Yu, who was born during the Han Dynasty, is said to be the greatest general in Chinese history. He was said to represent loyalty, strength, truth, and justice but died when he was tricked, and then beheaded, by an enemy. Before his untimely death, he was said to have won over one hundred battles. People also refer to Guan Yu as the God of Wealth and Success.
There is nothing noteworthy that takes lace on the fourteenth day of the Chinese New Year. Likely because this two week celebration comes to a big end on Day 15, with the Lantern Festival. We'll talk more about that tomorrow...
For now, I must get back to the Super Bowl Party preparations! :)
